Electric Barbecue Grill
Why would you want an electric barbecue grill? The answer is simple. This is the only kind of grill that you can
safely use both outdoors and indoors. It also never runs out of fuel and can cook food evenly without having to
manually change heat settings. Before you go and get one though, you should know all there is to know about
electric units.
Grill Options
There are a variety of electric units. All of them however function in the same way. You just need to plug an
electric grill to get it working. The major differences of electric brands lie in their specific features. Some
electric units are open surface grills while others are contact grills. Other special features include rotisserie
settings, interchangeable cooking plates, shelves, side tables, warmers and push button ignition. Your choice would
depend on your specific preferences.
Electric grills can also differ in size and frame. Although electric grills are smaller than other types, there
are models that come with wide cooking surfaces. Frames can be made of plastic or stainless steel. In general
though, stainless steel is always more durable.
Using Electric Grills
Electric models can be used outdoors. They are however, often more useful indoors. This is because gas and
charcoal grills are unsafe to use indoors even in partially open sheds. This is why they are the grill appliance of
choice in most apartments. Electric units don’t have the same problems and risks associated with the other two
grill types.
Special precautions should be observed though when using an electric barbecue grill outdoors. Make sure there
aren’t any frays on your grill wire that could touch surfaces with water. Kids should also not be allowed to
operate electric units. Although severe burns are unlikely, burns can still be caused by a warm cooking plate.
Don’t allow dry leaves, paper or other objects on your cooking plate.
Maintaining Grills
The level of grill maintenance required would depend on the grill brand. As a general rule though, you should
clean your grill after every use. Stains, food particles and even dust can lead to corrosion and eventual grill
damage. Make sure drip pans and cooking surfaces are soaped and washed with water.
If you have stainless steel grills, you can soak them in water first before cleaning so you can easily pick food
particles off. Don’t use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners on the steel parts. Soapy water and a soft sponge
are least likely to damage the stainless steel.
Of course, it should go without saying that your grill should only be used for its intended purpose. Don’t use
your grilling pan as a dryer or holder for hot pots and pans.
Check your grill regularly for rust or signs of weak points. Consider replacing parts like cooking plates or
grills in case you notice damaged areas.
An electric barbecue grill is one of the simplest appliances to use. This is why you’d want it to last long. One
way to ensure this is to get to know your grill so you’d know the best way to use and maintain it.
